How to Make In and Out Animal Style Fries
In and Out Animal Style Fries at home is an easy, tasty treat that requires minimal effort and a few key ingredients. The slight sweetness from the caramelized onions and the tangy, creamy notes from the sauce elevates the standard cheesy fries we have come to love in a way that is just purely delicious! To make this recipe, you will need these key ingredients:
Key Ingredients
- Frozen French Fries – used your favorite brand or type of fries
- American Cheese Slices – alternatively, you can use cheddar cheese or a combo of both cheddar and American cheese
- White or Yellow Onion
- Unsalted Butter
- Salt
- In and Out Sauce – made from scratch using mayo, ketchup, sweet relish, sugar and vinegar
Preparation
- Make Sauce – add all of the sauce ingredients into a bowl and mix to combine. Set aside.
- Prepare Fries – Place fries in a parchment lined sheet pan. Preheat oven and bake fries according to package instructions. Alternatively, you can fry or air-fry fries according to package instructions.
- Caramelize Onions – in a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add in the diced onions. Season with salt to taste and sauté the onions in the butter until it becomes softened and light golden brown in color, about 10-12 minutes.
- Assemble – cover hot fries with slices of American cheese. Residual heat from fries should melt the cheese but if all the cheese does not melt, place sheet pan back into the oven for 3-5 minutes to fully melt cheese. Top melted cheese with caramelized onions and a drizzle of the sauce.
- Serve – immediately while warm and enjoy!
